waste

It's such a nasty word with a nasty meaning.  However, it seems almost impossible to not waste in the United States and most cultures.  The price of having nice things is having to throw "away" its packaging.  I am not an environmental extremist, I do not believe in "global warming," but it does make sense to not fill up our land and our air with garbage.  I think that the story about Sunchips' bag is disgusting.  I've had the bag, the sound is the tiniest inconvenience.  I wouldn't have dug into them in church or during my two small children's nap time, but during a normal situation.... what's a little noise?  Grow up!  It is wonderful that they could come up with this technology & I think everyone is being silly.

I'd call myself "creative."  I like to create.  It is my personal desire to only waste what is absolutely necessary.  If I'd like to actually change my entire lifestyle I could probably waste a lot less.  However, having two small children and my desire to pack up my family and be missionaries in Berlin, Germany... I think I would go insane if I tried.  I definitely think my brain and anyone else's is more important, honestly, than being "green."  But there are simple ways to not waste so much in order to maintain your sanity.  Find a recycling center!  If you are lucky enough, your town may have drive-by recycling pick up.  In my town what they can pick up is pretty limited, but I can usually find a place to take different stuff.  Also, I try to buy products in recyclable materials. Join a freecycle network!

I am not a scientist, I have not done a lot of research or claim to know much of anything.  But I do know that space is limited and garbage doesn't help anyone.

Of course I'm only one person.  Saving up my garbage or reusing it won't make that much difference.  But I feel like the mentality of our culture needs to change.  Don't drive yourself crazy.  What good would our planet be to anyone if it were filled with crazy people?  I just feel like everyone needs to do what they can, make a little effort.
